The La Loma San Luis Potosi Open is being played at the stunning new La Loma Resort.

The 125,000 square foot clubhouse is an example of the modern architecture that is being undertaken in Mexico today. It features a full gymnasium, restaurant, spa and many other amenities.

A luxury hotel is under construction on the premises.

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Design is another testament to the Golden Bear’s ability to provide world-class golf facilities in places that many would deem impossible.

The lush green fairways of La Loma roll over mountainous desert terrain through valley canyons.

The opening hole is a beautiful 483-yard par four that plays slightly downhill to a narrow but inviting green.

Both the fifth and the sixth hole are reachable par fives in the rarified air yet accuracy is a must off the tee.

In what may be the signature hole, a large lake and cavernous bunkers protect the green at the par 3 8th hole.

Another large lake hugs the 503 yard par 4 14th hole down the right side.

The 15th is a 703 yard par 5. The lengthy hole has generous landing areas but the two-tiered green is surrounded by bunkers that will test the mettle of the best a player has to offer.

The par 3 17th hole is a beauty. Nicklaus has tucked the long and narrow green tight against the rock formations and trouble lurks everywhere. It is this hole that may just decide the winner on Sunday.

The city of San Luis Potosi dates to the late 1500s when it began as a mining town, and today it is a sprawling metropolis of more than half a million residents. It is an elegant and charming city with a very well preserved colonial center, anchored by a Plaza de Armas, or “Main Square.”

San Luis Potosi is a lively, active, vibrant town. Places of interest include the Calle Hidalgo, which is a pedestrian mall with some of the finest shops in the city, and the Casa de la Cultura, an art museum that exhibits the works of both national and regional artists.
