(Kingston, ON., July 5, 2012) - There are 33 players registered for the next Chase the Dream event at eQuinelle Golf Club in North Grenville this Sunday, July 8th. However, a lot of attention will be paid to Rhonda Hamoui, the first female competitor in this series of qualifying tournaments that was established for local golfers to try and win their way into The Great Waterway Classic Canadian Tour stop at Smuggler’s Glen from September 3-9.
Rhonda will be teeing it up from the championship blocks at eQuinelle and pitting her skills against some of the area’s top golfers. Rhonda is hoping for the same type of success as Isabelle “Izzy” Beisiegel who was the first female golfer to make it through a qualifying school and earn status on a previously all-male professional golf tour. Ms. Beisiegel accomplished that feat in 2011 by finishing 9th at the Canadian Tour Q-School.
Rhonda Hamoui has been playing golf since she was 14, initially taught by her father who will be following her in Sunday’s round. She was also a student of Rick Boisvert who worked on her swing tempo. Rhonda is a multi-sport athlete participating in soccer, tennis, badminton and squash as well as golf. It was a sports injury that took her away from golf for a period of time when she tore the ACL’s in both of her knees.
Ms. Hamoui had a strong playing record in the 1990′s when she was an Intermediate member at the Ottawa Hunt Golf Club, winning the “A” Class Ladies Championship three times. She is now a member of Executive Golf’s “Slammer Tour” and enjoys both the competition and camaraderie that comes with being a member of that tour.
When asked to comment on why she wants to play in this Chase the Dream tournament at eQuinelle, Rhonda remarked: “It would be thrilling to play on the Canadian Tour. Just the chance of doing that is a golfer’s dream and having the opportunity to play in this tournament with the possibility of that occurring makes for a great day! I’ve been ecstatic and looking forward to this tournament from the moment I signed up. I can’t wait for Sunday, July 8th and see what the next step brings me. Being the only women, of several men playing in this tourney, just reminds me of growing up with 3 older brothers and competing with them. I’ve also never played a tournament from the back tees, so that will make for an fascinating day and tournament.”
Evolution Golf welcomes Rhonda Hamoui and her fellow competitors to the second in a series of six Chase the Dream events that will be played at eQuinelle Golf Club in North Grenville on Sunday, July 8th. Tee times will start at 12:10 PM and the first four finishers from eQuinelle will make it through to the final qualifying round at Smuggler’s Glen GC on August 26th where 29 players will compete for 3 spots in The Great Waterway Classic. Spectators are welcome at eQuinelle throughout the competition on July 8th. |
